I’m Electro Gonzo — a neighborhood electronics specialist working out of the North End of Hamilton, Ontario. I repair, rebuild, revive, and sometimes completely rethink electronics that most people would consider finished.
Old, new, weird, obsolete — if it has circuits, I’ll take a look at it.
A lot of what comes through my bench falls into the category of “they don’t make these anymore.” Vintage electronics, discontinued parts, and one-off failures are where I tend to do my best work. I specialize in finding solutions where there usually aren’t any left on the shelf.
That includes micro-soldering, surface-mount PCB repair, and custom builds when replacement just isn’t an option. I also work on everyday equipment — any batteries replacements, music instruments, game consoles, computers, and small electronics that people rely on but don’t want to replace every time something goes wrong.
Lately, I’ve been getting more requests from local residents for mobility equipment service — things like scooter batteries, wiring, and tire-related electrical setups. It’s practical work, and it matters, especially for seniors who depend on that gear day to day. I’m happy to support that part of the community.
I don’t really believe in “throw it away and buy new” as the default answer. A lot of electronics still have life in them — they just need the right hands and a bit of persistence.
The name “Electro Gonzo” comes from a Gonzo journalism influence — the idea that you get into the story, not just observe it. I bring a similar mindset to repair work: hands-on, problem-first, and a bit unconventional when the situation calls for it. Not chaos for chaos’ sake — just a willingness to go off the usual path when the usual path doesn’t work.
At the end of the day, I’m just a local guy in the North End trying to keep useful things alive and working for the people who actually use them.
If it’s broken, obsolete, or “not worth fixing” — that’s usually where I start paying attention.
